What qualifies you for a seat on the School Committee?
Periodically, WPS needs to deal with difficult issues, along with successes and now we have several to confront together: diversity, technology customizing education, teacher rating systems, crowd-sourcing special education, facilities development, and radical change in directives from the federal government. My 30 year professional career leading groups impacting hundreds to thousands of people while delivering “never before possible” solutions gives me practice at managing conversations to successful completion. My innate ability to hone in on the root cause of an issue helps others see opportunities otherwise unseen. In my opinion, WPS should exploit technological potential for the benefit of the kids and the taxpayers, and I have experience choosing how to economically invest in such technology. The time of educational customization is here for all the kids. We need to rigorously engage the community in a true dialogue to best address all that we can do better.
As the current manager of data architecture for Textbooks.com, I have a uniquely informed vantage point to contribute to school committee. At our company, we sell physical textbooks and access to complementary online learning objects. This past week, Barnes and Noble Education purchased our company giving us more access to the world's educational markets.
